Peggy Jo King, age 88, passed peacefully at Cheyenne Place on February 18, 2018. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Peggy was born on November 14, 1929 to Russ and Zera Pieratt in Childress, Texas. She and sister Kathryn were the dearest of friends all their lives. Peggy attended Childress High School, where she was crowned Homecoming Queen. She married John King on June 12, 1949 and son, Roger, completed the family. They attended all of Roger’s activities and were just as much a part of their grandchildren’s lives. She was their biggest fan! Troy and Becky have many wonderful memories of spending time with their Nana; making chicken and dumplings (flour everywhere), listening to stories (told by a puppet), making tapes where they told stories or sang songs, running up to Nana holding up three fingers to get three pieces of candy and family camping trips. Her greatest delight in her last years was seeing her great-grandson, Elijah, and getting his hugs and kisses.

Peggy worked as a secretary and found her niche as a school secretary. She worked for 22 years in Littleton Public Schools, dispensing band-aids and sympathy in equal doses and helping keep the school running smoothly. She was that special person who students remembered, even decades later. After retirement, she and John created wood crafts and sold them at craft fairs, which kept them busy and happy. She loved cruises and family vacations to Hawaii and warm weather destinations.

After living happily in Littleton, Colorado for over 40 years, Peggy and John realized their dream of living in the mountains and moved to Divide in 2003.

Peggy is survived by her son, Roger, daughter-in-law, Betty; grandchildren Troy and Becky; great-grandson, Elijah; nieces, nephews and many friends. Peggy was predeceased by husband, John, on February 6, 2015. She was truly the heart of our family.

Special thanks to Cheyenne Place and the staff there, caregiver Gloria Martinez, and her friends and neighbors, who made her feel so welcome.

A Funeral Service will be held for Peggy at 11:00 AM on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, at Mountain Memorial Funeral Home, 51 CR 5, Divide, CO.  Following the service, and a light lunch, Peggy will be interred in the Divide Cemetery.
