Wilmer Eugene Wynia

Wilmer Eugene Wynia, age 75, of Woodland Park, CO, formerly of Rock Valley, IA passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on April 20, 2024 after a short illness of Glioblastoma Brain Cancer.

There will be no Funeral or Memorial Services at this time. There will be a private family inurnment at a later date at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley, IA.

Wilmer Eugene Wynia was born in Sioux Center, IA on November 25, 1948, to Henry and Johanna Wynia. He was raised on a farm in the Rock Valley area and attended Christian School in Rock Valley, IA and graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull, IA. He went on to study for 1 year in Dordt College in Sioux Center, IA. Soon after, he enlisted in the United States army in 1968, serving for 2 years in Viet Nam. On returning from Viet Nam, he attended Northwest Iowa Vocational School in Sheldon, IA for 3 years studying agriculture. From there, he began working at Farmer's Elevator in Rock Valley, IA where he spent many years working in agriculture.

On July 20, 1981, he married Wanda De Bruin in Sioux Falls, SD. Together they made their home and raised their family in Rock Valley until moving to CO after the children were off to college. Wilmer worked at various jobs during his life which always involved driving, he absolutely loved driving and helping people. After retiring at age 66, he worked for Teller Senior Coalition, taking seniors to various needed appointments. He continued doing this until his health started to decline.

Wilmer was a member of the First Reformed Church in Rock Valley, also of the local VFW. He was a very patriotic man and loved his Lord! He loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed watching all types of sports especially baseball, football, and basketball. He was a man of quiet virtue, gentle, loving, and humble!

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 42 years, Wanda; two children and their spouses, Jason and Misty Wynia of Bar Nunn, WY; and Amanda and Brian Aasheim of Beresford, SD; four grandchildren, Jack, Cade, Lance, and Julia Aasheim of Beresford, SD; two brothers and wives, John and Jean Wynia of Doon, IA; Dennis and Darla Wynia of Rock Valley, IA; sister-in-law, Ann Wynia of Sioux Center, IA; brother-in-law and wife, Marvin and Gleora De Bruin of Sheldon, IA; and sister-in-law and husband, Mildred and Delmar Rozeboom of Rock Valley, IA; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Wilmer was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Johanna Wynia; parents-in-law, Tom and Martha De Bruin; a brother, Henry Wynia; and a sister-in-law and husband, Marilyn and Ed Niemeyer.

He will never be forgotten!
