Wayne Roger Frohring

      Wayne Roger Frohring, age 74, passed away on November 23, 2019 in Colorado Springs, CO.  He is survived by his wife, Connie, children, Joy Frohring Brewer and Gregory Aaron Frohring, son-in-law, Lyle Lea Brewer, daughter-in-law, Anne Mariner, grandchildren, Samuel Rufus Brewer, Vesta Lea Brewer, and Cressa Mariner, and his loving sister, Jean Carol Frohring and her children Barbi Cass, Tim Sargent, Charles Gotthardt, and Fran Mills.  He was predeceased by, John Sargent, Pat Sargent, and Dwayne Gotthardt.

      Wayne was born in Chardon, Ohio, on May 3, 1945.  His parents were Roger Lewis Frohring and Frances Valentine Berkey Frohring.  He was on the cross country team and graduated from Newbury High School in rural Geauga County, Ohio in 1963.  He met Connie, the love of his life, in 1961 and they married in 1965.  The marriage was conducted by dear friend William Aaron Kunkle who with his precious wife Esther Kunkle have been like second parents to the couple.  

     Wayne graduated from Bethany College, Bethany, WV in 1967 with a B.A. and went on to study experimental and developmental psychology at West Virginia University in Morgantown WV where he received an M.A. (1971) and a PhD (1974).  The family moved to LaVale, MD in 1973. Wayne taught general psychology, statistics, and developmental psychology classes at Frostburg State College in Frostburg, Maryland until 1979.  A highlight of this time of his life was a bicycle trip in Europe from The Netherlands to Stockholm, Sweden with the family.  During 1978, Wayne began to consider working in clinical psychology.  He applied to graduate school again and was accepted at Denver University.  The family moved to the Rocky Mountains in 1979 where Wayne studied and completed internships in clinical psychology.  He completed his PsyD in 1984.  Moving to Colorado Springs, Wayne worked about 35 miles south in Pueblo, CO at the State Hospital.  His expertise in clinical and developmental psychology was used as he assessed and helped meet the needs of the geriatric population.  In addition to his employment there, he worked with the American Psychological Association evaluating and accrediting other hospital settings around the country. 

     During his working career, Wayne maintained interest in playing the piano and the violin, but his major hobby was running.  He ran almost daily on his lunch breaks from work, training for various mountain and city races.  He was able to run the Pikes Peak Ascent many times and then to run the Pikes Peak Marathon four times.  When he retired in 2001, Wayne decided that a grand piano would be his retirement present to himself.   He was able to take lessons then and played in recitals too numerous to count.  He also took up geology as a hobby.  He studied and collected samples of rocks from Colorado and on other travels.  He was also able to take trips to Canada and Europe where he especially enjoyed visiting Rome.  Also during his retirement Wayne let his inner artist come out as he began to paint.  His medium was water color and his favorite artist was a Swedish painter named Larson.  We have a variety of paintings that Wayne created over the years. 

A memorial ceremony will take place in the spring at the Mountain Wilderness Memorial Park.
