WALTER J. FIELD, JR.
February 20, 1939 ~ October 19, 2022
Walter J. Field, Jr. passed away peacefully on October 19, 2022 at Forest Ridge Senior Living in Woodland Park, Colorado. He was 83 years old. Walter was born on February 20, 1939 in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey, to Walter and Lucille Field. He was an only child.
Walter enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1956 in New York City, NY. He was called to active duty in 1958 at Coast Guard Group Sandy Hook, Fort Hancock, NJ and Walter proudly served aboard the US Coast Guard Cutter Mackinac from 1958-1960. He was honorably discharged in 1960. Walter was then transferred to the US Coast Guard Reserves and was stationed at Manasquan Inlet Lifeboat Station, Point Pleasant Beach, NJ until he completed his reserve duty in 1962. The US Coast Guard motto is “Semper Paratus” which means “Always Ready” and that was a theme carried throughout Walter’s life.
Walter was a loving husband and father. Walter married Janet on March 23, 1963. He was married to Janet for over 54 years and together they had two children, Jeffrey and Cheryl. They lived in Middletown, NJ and later moved to Colorado. Walter loved being out on his boat on the ocean, going to the beach, swimming, traveling, snowmobiling, music, dogs and spending time with friends and family. He had a sense of humor like no other. He was the fearless one and went on wild and crazy escapades!
Walter had a long career in the firefighting industry. His commitment and devotion to it was unsurpassed. Walter was a fire protection, fire prevention and fire safety consultant to the petrochemical industry, as well as a fire engineer and petrochemical foam specialist. At a young age, he was a volunteer fireman at the Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. He then worked 17 years for Walter Kidde doing firefighting equipment sales and services. In 1980, Walter started a fire protection consulting business called Firebuster Corporation. Walter tested and maintained fire equipment such as fire extinguishers, did fire loss control audits and inspections, gave fire safety seminars and enjoyed training employees at major industrial plants and petroleum companies on how to fight fires out in the field with live fire training. Many of Firebuster’s clients were Fortune 500 companies located throughout New Jersey and metropolitan New York and were concentrated along the New Jersey Turnpike. He had his very own fire engine and foam suppressant system. Walter fought the major petrochemical oil refinery fires and industrial plant fires when his expertise was needed. He was called to duty again and again. After he moved to Eagle, Colorado, he started a new business called Firebuster Solutions which was a very scaled down version of his former business.
Walter was a patriotic veteran and always had the American flag flying proudly at his home and on his boat. His duty to serve and protect others impacted the lives of too many people to count. He strove to carry himself with dignity and was a man of great courage, bravery and strength. Walter was an extremely special person to so many people and will be deeply missed…
