Vickie Marie Rooks Obituary

Vickie Marie Rooks of Woodland Park, Colorado passed away at her home on Monday, September 30, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was 72 years old.

Vickie was born on September 22, 1952, the daughter of Victor and Evelyn (Holloway) Grover in Lansing Michigan where she was raised until her junior year of high school. Her parents moved her and her youngest brother to Woodland Park in 1969 where she met her husband, Franklin Rooks. Vickie graduated from Woodland Park High School in 1970 and married Frank on December 31, 1970 in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. They were married for 53 ¾ years.

Vickie attended the University of Phoenix and Regis University where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 2002. She spent many years working in the Woodland Park school district. In 2004 Vickie and Frank traveled in their 5th wheel, as early retirement, to Michigan to see family and spent winters in Yuma Arizona. After returning to Woodland Park in 2006, from their retirement adventures, she was employed by Bronco Billy’s Casino in Cripple Creek as a Cashier and Gaming Assistant until 2010 when she began selling items on Amazon and eBay and eventually retired.

Vickie was a 4H Leader for many years in Teller County. In her free time, she enjoyed crafting and organizing things and spending time with her grandsons. She was a really generous person who would lend support to anyone in need.

She is survived by her husband, Frank, of Woodland Park; daughter, Tonya (Patrick); son, Shane; two grandsons, Charles and Samuel; sisters Carolyn Goedert of Michigan and Sue Houston of Michigan; brother, Woodbury (Linda) Grover of Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Kenneth Grover, and sister, Rebecca “Becky” Bratcher.

There will be no services, per Vickie’s request, but the family will have a celebration of life; date and time TBD.

An extra “thank you” to all the staff at Abode Hospice and Memorial Hospital Central who helped Mom to have the most comfortable last month.
