Thomas Talafero Sorrels, Jr.

Thomas Talafero Sorrels, Jr. was born in Dallas Texas, April 27, 1948 and passed away on January 14, 2025 at the age of 76. 

Thomas (Tom) and his family included 5 brothers and his parents Thomas and Laverna lived in Texas, California, Massachusetts, Utah, and Colorado.  Tommy (as he was known in his early years) attended Junior High and High School in Woodland Park.  He excelled as a Tool and Die maker, master mechanic, and skilled carpenter.  He assisted with the restoration of many of Cripple Creek’s historic buildings.  Tom and his beloved wife Jan, lived in Cripple Creek for over 30 years.  Tom took care of many seniors in the Cripple Creek area fixing their fences, wood stove, and other tasks usually without compensation.  He and his wife Jan loved the community and gave much back.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Talafero and Laverna Lucille, and his beloved wife Hannah (Jan) Williams on October 20, 2022. 

Tom is survived by 5 brothers, Robert, Paul, David, Jim, and Tim, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  Tom (and Jan) are also survived by Jan’s 3 daughters, Kathy, Heidi, and Jennifer, 5 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Memorial gifts are requested to be made in their honor and on their behalf to The Community of Caring Foundation of Cripple Creek. 

A memorial service will be held May 10, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Rocky Mountain Chapel, 4240 County Road 1, Cripple Creek, CO.
