Thomas Layne Shannon, 75, of Woodland Park, CO, passed away on July 17, 2022. He was born to parents William and Betty Shannon, on March 30, 1947 in Denver, Colorado.
After graduating from Iver C. Ranum High School in 1965, he served in the United States Navy as a corpsman and pharmacy technician during the Vietnam War which inspired a further career in pharmacy. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Colorado and his Masters of Arts in Health Service Management from Webster University. Later in his career, he returned to school at American Health Science University to receive the designation of Certified Nutritionist.
Tom worked as a pharmacist for over 30 years, during which time he designed and managed the pharmacy at Penrose Community Hospital in Colorado Springs. He retired from Centura Health before moving to Woodland Park, CO.
Tom met Sandra Shannon in Woodland Park. They were married in November 2013 and were beloved members of Highland Bible Church, where Tom served as church treasurer and Sandra taught Sunday School. Together, they enjoyed fishing, arrowhead hunting, and appreciating the beauty of the Colorado mountains.
Tom is predeceased by his brother, Michael Shannon. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Shannon, and brother, Gary Willis, as well as his 4 children: Nathanial Shannon- from his previous marriage with Julie Jones- and Erin Shannon, Kacey Reynolds, and Tara Clark- from his previous marriage with Elizabeth Shannon. He has 5 grandchildren- McKinley, Calix, Gemma, Wesley, and Brenner.
The family has entrusted Mountain Memorial Funeral Home with the arrangements. A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, July 20 at 7pm at Highland Bible Church (800 Research Dr #150, Woodland Park, CO 80863.) Pastor Jeff Gwinn will officiate the service. He will be laid to rest at Pikes Peak National Cemetery.
