Thomas Nowlin III Obituary

Thomas BLAIR Nowlin, III, died at his home in Florissant, CO., October 11, 2019, at the age of 73. He was born in Butler, PA, March 23, 1946 to Tom and Virginia Nowlin, both deceased. At the tender age of 1 he, his parents, and older sister, left PA for warmer climes in Tampa, Florida. He attended school there, graduating from Plant High School in 1964. From Tampa, he decided attending the University of Florida in Gainesville and becoming a gator were his next steps.

He was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. He graduated in 1969 with a degree in construction engineering which served him well as a captain with the US Army Corps of Engineers. In 1972, he received the Army Commendation Medal for his outstanding leadership at Ramstein Air Base in Kaiserslautern, Germany.

As a civilian in the US, he ordered and directed the placement of every piece of steel in the Peachtree Plaza Hotel in Atlanta. With several global construction companies, he had assignments in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kuwait, Malawi, South Africa, Iran and Jakarta. He returned to the US in 1996 and began construction of his beloved Mountain Hideaway near Cripple Creek.

Blair was an avid skier, having learned while in Europe. "The smoothest skier I ever knew," recalls his sister, Wendie. You always knew what day it was, because Blair golfed  with friends at Patty Jewett Golf Course in Colorado Springs every Tuesday. Sports, whether playing softball or volleyball on the court at his place or cheering on the Gators or the Broncos, Blair put his heart and soul into it. He is remembered by his many Lakemoor West/Florissant friends as someone who would do anything for anybody at any time. He was the original fix-it guy.

He is survived by his sister Wendie Highsmith (Jim), Lafayette, CO, Ellen Nowlin, Tampa, FL, his nieces, Debbie Highsmith (George), Salt Lake City, Utah, and Nikki Highsmith Vernick(Chris), great nephew, Zach, and great niece, Ellie, Ellicott City, MD., and his soul brother, Rande Gardiner(Judy) and their children, Chris and Kim, Bakersfield, CA/ Florissant, CO.

A celebration of Blair's life was held on the volleyball field at his home for friends and family on October 19. Lots of good stories of good times with Blair were shared. He will be remembered always by his family and friends across the world.
