Obituary

Terry Lee Taylor, of Florida and Colorado, passed away unexpectedly on June 25, 2023, at the age of 58, in Teller County, Colorado, due to natural causes.

Terry was born to parents Carol (Dash) Renaldo and Warren “Skip” Taylor on July 8, 1964, in Gowanda, New York. Terry grew up near Lorain, Ohio, as the second oldest of seven children. During Terry’s time in Ohio, he was active in the Boy Scouts, where he learned invaluable skills that he would later use throughout his inexhaustibly active and adventurous life off the beaten path.

Terry graduated from Brookside High School in 1982 before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, where he proudly served as a Sergeant specializing in electronic warfare systems. His distinguished military service included assignments at various U.S. locations and in Germany. Terry also enjoyed serving as a prestigious drill team member.

After honorably completing his military service, Terry moved to Northern Virginia and worked in the medical services profession. He and his friends there enjoyed playing drums and guitar during jam sessions, getting together for Sunday football gatherings, and playing volleyball with the “gang.” Later, Terry moved to Texas and started and operated a business before moving to Southwest Florida, where he happily lived and played near the beautiful beaches of Sarasota County.

Terry split his time between Florida and Colorado. In Colorado, he lived in the mountains of Teller County near the western slope of Pikes Peak. There, Terry enjoyed managing his popular vacation rental, affectionately known as “Cirq du Chalet,” and working to create a remote mountain resort in Fremont County.

Terry loved the great outdoors, traveling, camping, fishing, and thrifting. He was an unconventional entrepreneur with countless creative ideas and dreams. Terry had a gift of tinkering and creating masterpieces out of simple raw or discarded materials. His ingenuity and rugged self-sufficiency never ceased to amaze all who knew him.

Terry is dearly missed by his loving family and friends. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother and brother-in-law Randy and Lucas Taylor; sister and brother-in-law Dawn and Michael Minter and their children Jalen and Chloe; brother and sister-in-law Jim and Gwen Renaldo and their children Alec, Marissa, and Makenzie; brother and sister-in-law Chris and Stacey Renaldo and their children Krista, Taylor and Austin; and sister and brother-in-law Michelle and Michael Hauck and their children Donovan, Kacy and Ava. Terry was predeceased by his stepfather Frederick Renaldo, brother Brett Renaldo, maternal grandparents Edwin and Pearl (Schmit) Dash, and paternal grandparents Edward and Marion (Rater) Taylor.

To honor Terry’s wishes, a private celebration of life will be held for immediate family members in lieu of a funeral or memorial service.
