Tammy Viola Harris went home to Jesus on Wednesday, September 25th, 2024. She peacefully passed away at her beautiful home in the mountains in Florissant, Co, with her family by her side. After a long five year battle with cancer, she is finally at peace and home with the Lord. Tammy was 65 years young.
Tammy Viola Metson was born on May 10th, 1959 in Long Beach, California, to Steve and Barbara Metson. She had one older brother, Tony Metson. They lived in California until the family moved to Oregon in late 1960's. Tammy spent her high school years taking care of her beloved horse "Sultan", with which she won ribbons and trophies in the famous St. Paul Rodeo. She also enjoyed her time working as a florist and learning all the tricks of the trade. After high school Tammy married her high school sweetheart Dan Read.(m.1978-d.2005) They had 2 children, Peter and Megan and lived in Newberg, Oregon. Tammy worked at the front desk, in admitting, at the Providence Newberg hospital for almost 25 years! She loved her time there and all the friends she met along the way. She was an avid scrapbooker her whole life and created beautiful books for all holidays, events and childhood memories. Later in life, Tammy began a new chapter of life with her husband Les Harris. They married November 18th, 2008 in Woodland Park, Colorado and started to build the log cabin of their dreams in Florissant, Co. Once they arrived to the mountains Tammy spent her time kayaking, relaxing on the porch, tending to the property and animals, fellowshipping with friends and church family and sharing the news about Samaritans Purse and their gift of yearly shoe boxes for children around the world. Her favorite thing to do was share her love for God and bring Joy to those all around her. In 2019, she was diagnosed with Squamous cell carcinoma. Cancer had invaded her throat and lymph nodes. She had surgery to remove it and was able to fight and strengthen her body to become cancer free! She got to enjoy 5 more years with her family and friends, time we are all so grateful for. In 2023 she and Les took a trip of a lifetime to visit Greece, Italy, Rome, Corinth, Turkey and more! They had a wonderful time and celebrated Tams 65th birthday! When they got home, tests revealed her cancer had returned and a few months later she was called home to be with the Lord in Heaven.
Tammy is survived by her Husband, Les Harris. Her two children; Her son Peter Read and his partner Andresa Wells. Her daughter Megan Saunders and her husband Corey Saunders. Tammy had 2 grandchildren, Cali Lang-Saunders and George Saunders. Her older brother, Tony Metson. Her three sweet kitties Sammy, MoMo, and Sister. And her many loving friends and church family.
Tammy is predeceased by her mother Barbara Metson(d. Dec. 2022) and her father Steve Metson(d. Jan. 2000)
A memorial service for Tammy will be held at her church, Woodland Park Community Church, Saturday, October 19th, 2024 at 1 pm. Fellowship and time to celebrate Tammy will be immediately after, as well as gingersnaps to enjoy.
We will have a live viewing of her ceremony available on Facebook live, as well as a zoom link for those who wish to join but live far away.
Tammy lived her life for God! Her favorite word was JOY! And she was filled with it! She stood out in this dark world, always wearing bright colors, especially anything aqua, as that was her color! Every person she met, even briefly knew the wonderful soul she had and her care for all people in this world. She loved her church family at Cripple Creek Community Church and Woodland Park Community Church. She dedicated years of service to Samaritans Purse Shoebox Ministries. She loved to be with her family! She was proud of her children, and she adored her grandchildren.
Colossians 3 vs.1-4
Set your sights on the realities of Heaven, where Christ sits at God's right hand in the place of honor and power. Let Heaven fill your thoughts! Do not only think about things here on earth. For you died when Christ died, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your real life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory!
