Susan Kay (Schlecte) Jackson passed away suddenly on December 24, 2023, at her home in Florissant, Colorado. She was born in Pontiac, MI on January 11, 1943, to physicians Carl Schlecte and Eve Schlecte. She grew up in Rochester, MI on a country farm where she enjoyed riding horses, exploring the outdoors, hiking through apple and pear orchards to visit nearby friends, playing the piano and maintaining an excellent scholastic record, graduating as Valedictorian in 1960 from Rochester High School. Sue continued her education at the University of Michigan, achieving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1965. While in school her extracurricular activities included track and field, swimming, and music, playing the flute and piccolo and singing with the University of Michigan Choral Union. In 1966 she married Bernard Green and relocated to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where she continued her education at the University of Oklahoma and where her daughter, Deborah, was born on March 11, 1969.
Susan's adult life was spent living primarily in Colorado, where she raised and home schooled her daughter, constantly learning and finding new paths to follow. That path led her to a ministry conference where she met Garrett Jackson, a pastor from Chicago, IL. They married on November 27, 2006, and resided in Bangor, MI before returning to Colorado where they both devoted time to their church and fellow congregants. Sadly, Garrett passed away on April 29, 2021. Most recently, Susan found her little cabin in the woods nestled in the mountains of Colorado, immersing herself in the beauty of nature, walking her beloved mountain trails and devoting time to her faith and her God. She was deeply involved in her church and participated avidly in bible study groups. She also attended ministry courses at Charis Bible College, embracing her spiritual life.
Sue is survived by her daughter, Deborah (Tim) Covert, grandchildren Sara and Jadon, brothers Robert Schlecte and William (Laura) Schlecte, sisters Kathryn (Richard) Collins and Barbara (Matthew) Keniston, plus numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Richard Schlecte, her first husband Bernard Green and her husband Garrett Jackson.
May her wandering heart and spirit find peace in God's presence.
Her memorial service is scheduled for Friday, February 16, 2024.
