Steven D. Petersen passed away on November 14, 2023 at his home in Florissant, Colorado. He was an honored Vietnam War Veteran, husband, father, brother, son, and friend.
Steve was born on January 19, 1950 in Logan, Utah to Dale and Olida Petersen. They had two children together, Steven and Sandra. In high school Steve participated in JROTC for 3 years and discovered his desire to serve his country.
After graduating, Steve enlisted into the Army in 1969 and served our country during the Vietnam War. He was very proud of his service and will forever have our gratitude. Steve then enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1971 and continued to serve until his retirement in 1998.
Steve was well known for his interesting and ever-changing hobbies. They ranged from dinosaurs to astronomy, from scale modeling to 3D printing. A main staple of his hobbies has always been photography. His photograph was chosen for the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument Annual Pass in 2020 which speaks to the joy his photos brought everyone. They are beautiful and will be treasured.
Steve was also well known for his witty sense of humor. From unashamedly telling “dad jokes” and thoroughly enjoying the groans that would ensue, to a witty remark that left people in stitches. He could make anyone laugh. The laughter and joy he brought to our lives will be dearly missed.
Steve is survived by his wife Cheryl; his mother Olida Worley; his sister Sandra (Jim) Speth; his daughters Stephanie (Christopher) Woodbrey, Juli (James) Boyd, and Heather (Kodi) Nelson; and his stepchildren Geoffrey (Kelly) Schorr, Scott (Tiffany) Schorr, and Sarah (Angelina) Schorr.
Steve is preceded by his father Dale who passed away in 1982, and his stepson Glenn who passed away in 2010.
Services will be held at Mountain Memorial Funeral Home at 3:00 pm on Sunday, November 19, 2023.
