Shirley Boie passed away Friday, February 14, 2025, at Forest Ridge Assisted Living Facility in Woodland Park, Colorado. Shirley had lived at Forest Ridge for three years and finally lost her battle with Dementia and Alzheimer Disease. She was 87 years old.
Shirley was born May 30, 1937, in Ash, North Carolina. Her mother Elsa was a German Immigrant who fled Nazi Germany with her father when Elsa was 15 years old. Shirley recalled her mother serving coffee and donuts to soldiers training at the nearby base. They escaped an abusive marriage and moved to Rhode Island, where Shirley had to leave school to help raise her five siblings. She returned to school in her 40's and earned her GED, where a teacher told her she had the skills to be an engineer, but it was very difficult for a woman then.
Shirley used these skills to become a master seamstress, working the textile mills in Rhode Island and made stunning gowns and men's clothes on the side for a diverse range of customers. On June 1964, she married the love of her life Roger Boie, whose family were French Canadian.
She was a wonderful cook and baker, when Roger taught her the game of cribbage, it wasn't long till it was very difficult to beat her at it. They had a passionate marriage for 54 years before Roger suddenly passed away in 2018. Shirley also outlived all five of her siblings. Her brothers: Joesph, James, John and sisters Patrica and Elizabeth.
Shirley is survived by her daughter Connie and her husband john; three grandchildren Garry, Tina, Leah; and two great grandchildren, Colin and Audrey.
Shirley was an exceptional mother, devoted wife and an amazing sister. She was an avid reader. After retirement, Shirley worked for Casa Grande school Dist. for 10 years into her late 70s to keep her mind busy and contribute to her community.
She will be extremely missed by all. A Memorial Service will be held at Mountain Memorial Funeral Home in Divide, Colorado March 11, 2025, at 2:00pm.
