Sandra C. Reynolds
Sandra C. Reynolds, 71, passed away on November 1, 2024, at her home in Woodland Park, CO. She was born on October 25, 1953, in Warrenton, VA, to parents James and Charlotte Compton. She grew up in Vienna, VA, graduating from George C. Marshall High School in 1972. Continuing her education, she graduated from George Mason University in 1976 with a degree in psychology. Also, in 1976 Sandy married the love of her life, Mike Reynolds, and they began their beautiful life together. Later in life she pursued her passion for teaching by earning a master's degree in education from Mary Washington University in Fredericksburg, VA.
Sandy was a dedicated educator who strove to have a positive impact on her students and was well respected by her colleagues. She began her teaching career as an elementary school teacher, then moved to the intermediate level as a reading teacher. Throughout her time with Manassas City Public Schools, Sandy received many awards and recognition for her excellence in teaching. Upon retirement, she and Mike moved to Colorado where Sandy returned to teaching as an English Language Learner teacher. Again, she had a positive impact on her students and colleagues alike.
Since childhood, reading had been a passion of Sandy's - World War II nonfiction being her favorite genre. She was always ready to share thoughts on books she was reading and lend out books from her vast collection. Sandy also enjoyed being outdoors and in nature. While living in Virginia she took many family trips to the Adirondacks, where she enjoyed paddling, hiking, fishing, and camping. Once she moved to Colorado, she continued to spend her time hiking, as well biking, and tending her beautiful flowers.
Another big part of Sandy's life was her love for Great Danes. She was mother to eight of these gentle giants over the years; losing her last one, Gus, only a few days before her own passing.
A devoted wife of 48 years to Mike Reynolds, she was also a loving mother to her sons, Joseph (Corinna) Reynolds and James Reynolds, and a doting Grammy to her grandchildren, Dayton and Freya. In addition to her husband, sons, and grandchildren, Sandy leaves behind sisters Debbie McNair and Sue Smith, nieces Meredith (Greg) Sherman and Maggie (Tyler) Overman, and nephews Will McNair, Kyle (Sarah) Smith, and Cody Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as a sister, Pam Compton.
A service for Sandy will be held at 11 am on December 2, 2024, at the Mountain Memorial Funeral Home in Divide, CO. In lieu of flowers, the family asks a donation to be made to your local animal rescue organization.
