Sally passed away peacefully on January 13, 2021, at her home in Woodland Park, Colorado with her loving husband Dick by her side. Sally is survived by her daughter Chrissy Brill (Jeff), her adorable grandchildren Kiera and Hudson, her sister Judi, brother David (Carole), and nephews and niece Blake, Courtenay (Dan and the girls), Quinn, Richard, and Kevin, and is predeceased by her parents Blake and Kay Smale.
Sally grew up in Baltimore, Ontario, Canada and attended CDCI West, where she was an all-round student and driving force in planning the school’s extracurricular calendar. She will be remembered for her love of horses. Sally taught many in the community to ride and organized gymkhanas at the family farm on Harwood Road to showcase local equestrians.
After finishing high school, Sally travelled to Europe where she completed recognized equestrian level exams in both England and France. Upon her return, she was hired as equestrian manager at the Grosse Pointe Hunt Club in Detroit, and from then on, remained in the States. Her professional life with horses was followed by a successful career in the health care industry, which took her to all parts of the States, Colorado being her favourite, and upon retirement, her adopted home. There, her desire to share her skills and passions continued. As a keen fly fisherwoman, Sally was actively involved in Project Healing Waters, organizing fishing experiences for disabled military personnel.
Sally was a kind and generous soul, who loved her family very much. She will be missed by all of us.
