Rick Thomas

Louis Richard Thomas (Rick), 79, of Lake George, Colorado, was called home by our Lord on April 23, 2023.  He died of heart failure, at his home, with his wife of 37 years, Kristine, by his side.

He was born in Lakeport, California September 20, 1943 to Edward Richard (Ed) and Anna Opal (Phillips).  He was the youngest child of this union with his oldest sister Anna Loretta and brother Eulace.  His father remarried to his stepmother Alene (Butcher) and they had four children together.  Roy (who died as an infant), Patricia, David and Paul.  

He grew up in California and was proud to work at a service station in Oxnard as a teenager. He quickly learned his trade and earned his way to a management position at Firestone Tire in southern California, where he worked until 1972.  He then became a long-haul truck driver and enjoyed traveling the country until his retirement.  He enjoyed cutting firewood and was a true mountain man since he moved to Colorado in 1977. 

He was an avid guitar player who had a beautiful voice.  He enjoyed entertaining others and was a die-hard Broncos fan.  Every Broncos game he had to sit in his Broncos chair, facing north, toward Mile High Stadium, to cheer them on.  He often said his father called him a logger-headed outfit and lovingly laughed about it.  He was proud of his family and loved them all unconditionally.  

He was a very religious man, a mentor and guide to many.  He often quoted the 23rd Psalm, his favorite Bible verse.  He and his best friend, Russ Chezum, would often discuss the true meaning of life and the benefit of believing in the here and now. 

He is survived by his wife Kristine (Broussal), his daughter Debbie (Ed Zoll), sons Rick (Allison) and Ron (Jody) and daughter Renae.

He had eight grandchildren.  Sarah (Casey McDonnell), Jason (Rhodes), Richard, Casey Rae (Gauderon), Erin, Ryan (Gabby), Aiko and Ciera (Jio).

He had thirteen great grandchildren.  Colin and Tanner (McDonnell), Paxton Thomas.  Jack and Alice (Kostka), Thane (Gauderon), Audrey and Gunner Thomas.  Abby, Blake, Forrest, Wyatt and Amelia (Rhodes).

Nephews and nieces Cathy Mayeda (Tim), Jim Duran, Rob Duran (Dianna), John Thomas (Elizabeth), Sheri Anderson (Aaron), Mari, Melanie,  Stephanie, Brandon, Brian, Shara and numerous cousins.

He is preceded in death by his brother Roy, father Ed, mother Opal, stepmother Alene, brother Eulace, brother David, sister Patricia, niece Melanie and granddaughter Erin.
