Raymond March Obituary

Ray was born in Colorado Springs, C0. Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Deckers, CO. where he grew up. He fought forest fires in the Deckers area and played guitar with his musically talented family.

In 1968 Ray graduated from Woodland Park High School. Shortly after graduation he was called into service by the U.S. Army. He proudly served his country from 1969 to 1970 in Vietnam where he earned a “Bronze Star Medal” for Heroic Service.

Upon returning from Vietnam, he went back to the Deckers area and later moved to Lake George, CO. Ray truly loved the Lake George area where he had many friends. He enjoyed hunting, camping and ATV riding in that area. His heart was attached to the area. He served as the Fire Chief of the Lake George Volunteer Fire Dept. and Deputy Sheriff reservist for Park County.

Ray worked for the State of Colorado in different departments for 35 years, where he learned the skills of operating heavy equipment which was his passion. He worked for Eleven Mile State Park in Lake George, CO and later transferred to Mueller State Park in Divide, CO from the time the park was being built. In both parks, he was the Maintenance Supervisor. Ray built many of the Park’s monuments, which are still enjoyed today.

After retiring, he started his own business “Rays Driveway Repair”. He was happiest when operating equipment and moving dirt.

Ray is survived by his loving wife, Melody, of 35 years, his daughter Heather March-Nixon and family of Cullman AL, his son Stan March and family of Arab AL, and his brother Melvin March of Florissant, CO.

Ray was a wonderful person and loved by many. He will be missed, but will live forever in our hearts.

Arrangements are being handled by Mountain Memorial in Divide CO.

This summer family and close friends will come together and celebrate him.
