Peter Anthony Krupa

Peter Anthony Krupa, a longtime Waukegan area resident, loving family man, mechanic, hunter, and U.S. Army veteran, died surrounded by his family on Thursday, August 10, 2023 in Colorado Springs where he retired and lived with his wife Dawn. In 1972 he married Dawnmarie Olsen of Waukegan and had three children: Kimberlee (Brad Miller), Kelly, and Kristine and five grandchildren: Hope Miller, Barrett Miller, Katherine Solo-Krupa, Oliver Solo-Krupa, and Parker Solo-Krupa. Peter, 74, was born on February 6, 1949 in Waukegan, Illinois to Thaddeus and Emily (Steplyk) Krupa, prominent members of the Polish community in North Chicago. Peter is survived by his siblings Ted Krupa (Joan) Michigan, Agnes Christman (Richard) Danville Illinois, Rosemary Calvert, Illinois, Bede Krupa (Diane) Michigan, Paul Krupa, Tennessee.

Pete opened Gurnee Transmission in1986 and he and Dawn served the community with compassion, hard work, and integrity for 33 years. Prior he worked for Dan Lodesky Trucking and Aldridge Electric after serving in the U.S. military.  He was awarded a Bronze Star Medal while serving in the 25th Infantry Division, Cu Chi during the Vietnam War. He was a board member for Camp Jorn and volunteered to maintain their equipment and worked the pancake breakfast fundraisers.

Pete was a loving husband and devoted father, and he treasured the time he spent with family and friends while hunting, camping, riding his Argo, or just sharing a beer in the garage. His love of the outdoors and hunting took him to Ottawa National Forest, Michigan and Wisconsin several times a year with his brothers and close hunting buddies for over five decades. Pete's unfailing generosity to family, friends, and strangers will never be forgotten.  A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 21, 2023 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Monument at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs, CO.
