Paul Loyd Obituary

Paul Raymond Loyd, 79, of Woodland Park, Colorado Died on Sunday January 1, 2023 at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Paul was born September 17, 1943 in Oak Park, Illinois. His father was Guy Raymond Loyd and mother Constance Elaine Loyd (Strutzel). He was the first of 7children. Paul had 1 brother and 5 sisters. He was 18 months of age when twin sisters were born. His life was never the same! 2 more sisters followed then his brother and baby sister.

Paul attended the University of Illinois at Champaign where he was News Director of WPGU student radio for 3.5 yrs. This was followed by 4 years in the United States Air Force where he learned Russian language at Syracuse University with the specialty title of Voice “INTCP PROC SPECL” – Top Secret Crypto clearance. Paul also attended Artic Survival Training. The Air Force continued his education in several areas. He was stationed in Alaska, England and also Japan with Top Secret Security. He was awarded a Citation to accompany the award of the Air Medal for his “Outstanding proficiency and steadfast devotion to duty under extremely hazardous conditions” + “distinguished himself by meritorious achievement”.

Upon his honorable discharge he became the computer analyst for the Loyola University Medical Center for over 32 years. When his father died just before his 60th birthday, Paul took over as head of household. His mother was born in Colorado and loved the mountains. So when Paul built his home in Woodland Park, Colorado he included a suite for mom off the kitchen. Mom had several wonderful years there. Then when mom became sick and needed care, Sister Sue came to help. When mom went to Heaven, Paul asked Sue to stay. During his 23 years in Woodland Park Paul has devoted his time to volunteering both at the Ute Pass Historical Society and the Woodland Park Senior Citizen Club. In addition, he was Very generous in supporting numerous non-profit organizations such as Food Pantry, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, several Historical Societies, etc.

Paul is survived by Deanna Akins, Susan Janicki, Rita Mann (Michael), Gregory Loyd (Ronne) and Lisa Battersby (Stephen), 12 Nieces and Nephews AND 21 Great Nieces and Nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his parents Guy and Constance Loyd, his sister Judith Siok and brother-in-laws Bill Akins (Deanna), Edward Janicki (Susan) and Gilbert Siok (Judith). He was a Very Loving + Generous son, brother and uncle!!!

There will be a Memorial Service for Paul Raymond Loyd on Saturday January 21, 2023 at 11am at the Senior Center in Woodland Park. A Luncheon will follow.

Paul’s ashes will be laid to rest at Pike’s Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs. He will remain by the mountains that he loved!
