Orene (Mills) Newman

Orene Newman, (Cricket) passed away at the age of 94, in Woodland Park on March 3, 2023.

Daughter to Omar Mills and Ollie Mills, she was born May 19, 1928 in the mountains of Tennessee. Cricket was the eldest sister to Ozelle, Oma Lee, and Ophelia. Orene attended beauty school, and was a hairdresser for many years. When she moved to Colorado from Tennessee she was given 3 months to live, that was in 1954. Cricket met her husband Glenn Newman after moving to Colorado, where they built a life together and settled down in Teller County, shortly after having her third child Perry.

Orene loved to travel and saw all but 2 of the lower 48 states. In her later years she filled the hearts of many people with her stories from the long life she had lived and the wisdom she gained.

Orene is survived by her daughter Mary (Billy) Newman; grandsons, Clayton and Dakota and Sister Ozelle.

he joined her husband, Glenn Newman; children Perry and Pam; and sisters Omalee and Ophilla.
