Nathan D. McKinney

Nathan D. McKinney, 58, passed away unexpectedly on July 26, 2025.

Born on February 9, 1967, in Denver, Colorado, Nathan was the beloved son of Daniel and Rachel McKinney. He spent his early years in eastern Colorado and later attended Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs, where he met the love of his life, Jill (Byers). The two were married on May 6, 1989, in Woodland Park, Colorado.

Nathan earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biology at Western State College before pursuing his Juris Doctor at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Law, graduating in 1996. He began his legal career in Lincoln, Nebraska, but soon returned to Colorado Springs when Jill's career brought them back home. In 2001, Nathan established McKinney & Associates, P.C., a law firm known and respected throughout the region for its work in family law, bankruptcy, and personal injury. Nathan took great pride in the firm, the people he worked with, and the clients who trusted them over the years.

Outside of his career, Nathan was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in hunting and fishing. A lifelong fan of both the Denver Broncos and the Nebraska Cornhuskers, he loved sports, the mountains, and the quiet moments of life.

Nathan is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jill; his children, Natalie (26) and Jacob (23) his wife, Nickie (23), his parents; and many dear friends, colleagues, and clients whose lives he touched. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, dedication, and unwavering integrity.
