Michael John Rogers, 66, passed away on March 1, 2025, doing what he loved, riding his mountain bike in the mountains near Cripple Creek. Born on December 13, 1958, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he lived in West Chester until his family moved to Wyoming in the late 1970's.
Mike grew up with a deep curiosity about the world around him. He attended Casper College before transferring to Colorado State University, where he earned a degree in Construction Management. Mike began his professional journey with Hensel Phelps Construction Company, where he honed his skills and built a reputation for excellence. After moving to Florissant with his young family, he took a position as a Building Inspector for the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department, dedicating twenty years to ensuring quality and safety in construction. In 2013, he transitioned to GCH Construction Company, where he worked as an estimator until his retirement at the end of 2024. His expertise was highly sought after, and he was deeply respected in his field.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mike was a true Renaissance man. His interests were vast and ever-expanding—he loved the ocean and took great joy in learning to sail. Scuba diving provided him with many adventures beneath the sea, while riding his bike and motorcycle gave him freedom on land. He had a passion for photography and found beauty in capturing moments through his lens. A devoted birdwatcher and stargazer, Mike’s knowledge of birds and constellations educated those around him. He had the ability to fix nearly anything, and was always eager to solve problems with ingenuity. He was a loyal friend who touched many lives with his kindness and gentle nature. His adventurous spirit, love for life and positive outlook will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Mike cherished traveling with his beloved wife, Ann Obernesser Rogers. Together, they explored the country and Canada in their RV, making memories along the way. He also found peace hiking near his home in Florissant with his faithful Yellow Labrador, Lola. Perhaps one of his greatest joys was being a grandfather—he adored spending time with his three grandchildren and treasured every moment with them.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Obernesser Rogers of Florissant; his daughters Leslie Morfitt (Billings, MT) and husband Ethan, along with their son Parker; Jessica Rogers of Kansas City, MO; and Kelly Cope (Cheyenne, WY) and husband Kyle, along with their daughters Paisley and Harper. He is also survived by his mother Suzanne Rogers (Clermont, FL); his sister Kate Gale (Nice, France); and his brother John Rogers (Clermont, FL) and wife Debra, along with their children Samantha, Shelby, John, and Michael. Additionally, he is survived by his first wife Sandra Hawkins (Monument, CO). Mike was predeceased by his father John J. Rogers of Parker, CO, and his brother Patrick Rogers of Hawaii.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 22, 2025, at The Florissant Grange (2009 CR 31) in Florissant, Colorado. The service will begin at 2:00 PM. A reception will follow the service.
