Michael Scott Murray

Michael Scott Murray, age of 71 and resident of Divide, Colorado passed away peacefully from natural causes on February 22, 2023.

Michael was born October 14,1951 in Seattle, Washington to Gordon and Diane Murray. Michael had five siblings, Gordon Murray, Chris Murray, Timothy Murray (deceased), stepbrothers Doug and Gordon Doman.

Michael grew up in Southern California and joined the United States Army in 1970.  During his service he earned the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Sharpshooter Badge.  In 1971 Michael married his high school sweetheart, Vicky Kerner, and they had three children together, Kevin, Bryan, and Michelle.  

After receiving an honorable discharge in 1973, Michael began a successful business career. He started as a purchasing agent for a technology company and after many years, he started his own business in Lafayette, Colorado. His company first specialized in repairing Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing machines and then he transitioned the company into a data storage solution provider. In 1995, Michael, with the help of his sons, relocated the company to Irvine, California where Kevin and Bryan both worked for him. The move to California proved very successful and Michael’s company grew rapidly. 

Michael always loved what he did and did it with great passion.  He loved taking his children on new adventures that included outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, waterskiing, snow skiing, sailing, and traveling to locations such as Lake Powell, Mexico, and across the Rocky Mountains.

Michael is survived by his children, Kevin Murray of Springfield, Illinois, Bryan Murray of Florissant, Colorado, Michelle Smagh of Yorktown, Virginia, and his two grandchildren Aidan Smagh and Addysen Smagh.

The funeral service will be held 11am Saturday March 4 at Mountain Memorial Funeral Home, 51 County Road 5, Divide, Colorado 80814.
