With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Michael Dean Elwell, affectionately known as Mic, who left us peacefully at his home in Woodland Park, Colorado, on September 29, 2024. Born in Mason City, Iowa, Mic's journey began in a loving family led by his parents, Mavis and Richard Elwell. In pursuit of new opportunities and adventures, the family relocated to Colorado, where Mic would go on to embrace the natural beauty and vibrant culture that would define his life.
Mic spent most of his years in Woodland Park, cultivating deep roots and a profound love for the mountains that surrounded him. He was the cherished brother of David, Dawn, and the late Rodney, who he always held close to his heart.
Mic was passionate about family, music, art, and the great outdoors. He found joy in fishing, riding his Harley, and exploring scenic drives that showcased the breathtaking landscapes of Colorado. He was a talented musician who shared the stage with legends like Loretta Lynn, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Jewel, and had the honor of opening for the Eagles. As a member of bands such as The Harvest, Special Delivery, The Colt 45 Band, and Thunder Mountain, Mic's love for music created lasting connections and memories.
He is survived by his beloved daughters, Amanda Valenzuela and Jennifer Valenzuela, and his adoring grandchildren, Ethan, Evan, and Leila Valenzuela. Mic’s spirit will continue to resonate through them and all who knew him.
In the embrace of the Colorado mountains he loved, Mic will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His legacy of love, laughter, and music will carry on in the hearts of his family and friends.
A celebration of Mic's life will be held on Friday, October 11, 2025, at 11:15 AM at Mountain Wilderness Memorial Park, 120 Arapahoe St, Woodland Park, CO 80863.
A reception luncheon will follow immediately after the service at the Memorial Park Pavilion, 200 N Park St, Woodland Park, CO 80863.
Mic’s final resting place will be at Woodland Park Cemetery alongside his parents and his brother Rodney.
