Mary Zaleski (née Ponichtera), 89, of Woodland Park, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, from complications related to leukemia.
Mary was a woman of strength, spirit, and endless love. She was one of the youngest of nine children and carried the warmth of a big family with her throughout her life. In her early years, she worked as a model—and she never stopped dressing the part. Even in retirement, she was known for her stylish outfits and polished look, whether she was going to work or just spending time with family.
Mary was a lifelong Catholic whose faith guided her in good times and in hard ones. But what people remember most is her joy. She had a magical laugh that lit up every room and a playful sense of humor—she loved to wear silly hats and oversized sunglasses, prancing around just to make others smile. She was loving, strong, and, yes, sometimes a little stubborn—but always in a way that made you love her more.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband 55 years, Edward Zaleski. She leaves behind three daughters—Laurie (David) Langley, MaryLee (John) Allen, and Susan (Danny) Gonzales—along with 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored deeply.
Mary’s presence was a gift to all who knew her, and her memory will continue to bring laughter, love, and light to those she left behind.
A memorial Mass will be held in her honor on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Our Lady of the Woods Parish in Woodland Park.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
