Louis Nelson Obituary

Louis "Lou" Byron Nelson, 79, of Pueblo, Colorado, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, just three days shy of his 80th birthday.

Lou was born on August 9, 1945, in Roseburg, Oregon. Several years later his parents, Helmar and Frances Nelson, put roots down in Pueblo, Colorado. Lou graduated from South High School and Southern Colorado State College (CSU-P), in Pueblo.  He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Lou was self-employed as a general contractor and taught Industrial Arts at the middle school and high school levels before retiring. Never one to sit idly, Lou continued using those skills to help his children with never-ending projects. He loved the Lord Jesus, his Savior, and was a faithful church member, who willingly and wholeheartedly served others.

Lou had a lifelong passion for camping, fishing, gardening, vehicles of all types and sizes, and anything mechanical. He was the happiest when surrounded by his family and dogs, sharing stories, laughter, and a good meal. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, generosity, and kindness. His all-encompassing bear hugs, laughter, and ready smiles will be sorely missed by both family and friends.

Lou is survived by his wife of 38 years, Trish, and children Greg Nelson, Mike Nelson, Ryan (Lanee) Burns, Chris (Melanie) Burns, Megan (Andy) Engebretson, and Kevin (Lenka) Burns. He was the cherished ‘Papa’ of grandchildren Kayli (Gary) Head, Shelby (Zac) Cobble, Carly (Mason) Hefner, Tyler (Kiarra) Nelson, Michaela (Daniel) Stamey, and Conner Lessel and by Lauren, Aidan, Tristan, Nathan, Joshua, Alanna, Tanna, Elijah, Lily, and Naomi Burns and David, Abigail, William, and Olivia Engebretson, as well as to great-grandchildren Levi, Nora, Ayla, Prescott, Polly, Zoma, Winry, Amelia, and Leonidas. Lou was loved dearly by his brother Neil (Debbie) Nelson and sister Debbie (Mark) Robertson, as well as by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Lou will be remembered by his large family and many friends at 3 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Covenant Reformed Presbyterian Church in Pueblo, Colorado.
