Lothel “Lotie” Maria Sales, 61, passed away unexpectedly on August 11, 2025, at her
home in Hartsel, Colorado.
Born on March 24, 1964, in Geneva, Illinois, Lotie was the beloved first daughter of
Maria Westrick. She spent most of her life in Sulphur Springs, Arkansas. She lived a full
life in Arkansas but also dreamed of a cabin in the mountains. In 2019 she found that in
Hartsel, Colorado and in 2023 she moved there permanently. Lotie was truly happy with
her way of life in Colorado and it was the perfect spot for her active soul.
A beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Lotie was an avid reader, she loved
gardening and kept busy with projects around her cabin and on her land. She enjoyed
hiking in the hills and road tripping through the area’s national parks. Lotie was a
genuine person, full of life’s wisdom and she was happy to listen and share her own
experiences and advice. She was a free spirit and no matter how hard life tried to dim,
she kept shining.
She will be remembered by her loved ones for her strength, resilience, laughter and
love. Lotie was a believer of reincarnation so it’s with happy hearts that we look forward
to seeing her again, in whatever form that is. She will forever be our Towanda!
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Quintin and Mathue Westrick.
Lotie is survived by her four daughters, Tessa (Doug) Pope of Colorado Springs,
Colorado, Carissa (Joe) Emrick of Guston, Kentucky, Candace Bright of Southwest City,
