On January 14, 2023, Leota “LODI” Hern passed away at the age of 95 at New Day Cottages in Colorado Springs, CO. Lodi was born May 28, 1927 to Homer & Myrtle McNeil, in Shattack, Oklahoma. She was the youngest of three children. She married the love of her life Hard “Big H” Hern in June of 1942, in northern New Mexico. In 1964 they moved to Cripple Creek, CO, where she managed the Cottage Inn, Red Lantern Inn and the Old Homestead Museum. Lodi was famous for her home cooking and her wonderful sense of humor. Her activities were gardening, following local sports and lavish parties. But her favorite was when she worked at Old Homestead Museum (brothel).
She is survived by her two sons, Mike (Darla) Hern, Colorado Springs and Ike (Cathy) Hern, Cripple Creek. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and other extended family members. She is preceded in death by her husband Harold “Big H” Hern and her son Pat Hern.
Lodi will be interred at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 11:00 am, followed by a celebration of Life at the Cripple Creek Elks Lodge at noon.
