June Koester Obituary

June Koester died peacefully in her home July 23, 2022 in Woodland Park, CO.  She was born May 20, 1936 in Detroit, MI and was the youngest daughter of Alice and Arthur Drinkard.  June is survived by her husband Lynn who were married August 6, 1960.  Lynn was committed in caring for June that allowed her to continue to live in their home that she designed, built and loved in Woodland Park, CO until her death.

She is predeceased by two sisters, Jean Magnuson and Joyce Tamsen.  June often shared wonderful memories of her aunts, uncles and cousins and their Finnish heritage from the Upper Peninsula of MI.  Besides her husband Lynn, June leaves three children and 4 grandchildren.  They are Lynnea Koester and husband Mark Moser of Gilford, NH and their two children Bryce and Aiden, David Koester and his partner Renee Menchhofer of Oakland, CA and Bradley Koester and his two children Silver and Wyatt of San Francisco, CA.  She enjoyed her brothers and sisters in law and the many family gatherings held with them throughout the years.

June attended Cooley High School in Detroit and was the first in her family to graduate from college.  June obtained her Bachelors of Education at Bowling Green State University.  She completed graduate work at the University of Toledo.  June worked as a teacher for two years in Orange County, CA, taught Head Start at Toledo Public Schools for two years, and taught 4th and 7th grade English at Ida Middle School for 28 years.  Lynn and June lived together with their family in Temperance, MI for 35 years.

June was an adventurer at heart.  She enjoyed traveling with her family in their Winnebago during the summer break from school on cross country trips and developed a love of the West that eventually brought her to retire in CO.  June also enjoyed numerous adventures in the mountains and coastlines of Canada as well as a Cruise in Alaska.
