Josephine Chitswara Obituary

Celebrating the life of Josephine (Josi) Dorothy Theresa Tomari Chitswara. She was 78 years old when she passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Woodland Park, Colorado while lying beside her husband Eugene on May 26th, 2019. Alzheimer’s was the cause of Josephine’s passing.

Josephine was born June 6th, 1940 in Freeland, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, USA. Her parents were Mary and Alexander Tomari.
Josephine was the fifth of nine children. But she was never lost amongst them. She was fierce, strong willed and supported her family wherever she could. She met the love of her life early on in their childhood. Eugene Chitswara didn’t seem like much at first, and the two often butted heads. But as they got older Josephine and Eugene grew closer. Eugene fell in love with Josephine’s independence, compassion and strong sense of humor. She was something fierce! Eugene knew that to have a woman so fierce and loving by his side they could do anything together.

Eugene and Josephine got married on June 10, 1961. Later they had three girls, Kathleen, Karen and Keri. Josephine was a stay at home mother and gave all her attention to supporting her three daughters and caring for them. Josephine had many hobbies such as cooking. She had many recipes that had been passed down from generation to generation and she spent time sharing those recipes with her girls. She was an amazing pierogi maker and she made them every Christmas dinner. She also enjoyed picking wild flowers and creating magical pieces of art. She made bookmarks, cards and home decor with them. Many of which she shared with her grandchildren. She was an avid caretaker of plants. Particularly orchids. She had the magic touch when it came to them. Orchids are very hard to take care of but Josephine was able to keep many of these plants alive and they flourished under her care.

Josephine is survived by her husband Eugene Chitswara and their three girls: Kathleen Fulks, husband Jeremy Fulks, Karen Chitswara, and Keri Warner, husband Branden Warner.
Her grandchildren Melissa Reavis, Joshua Cliver, Jessica Watson, Luke Cliver, Cassandra Ritter, Jordan Aikens, Chandler Fulks, Max Warner, Katie Warner, Hailey Warner, and Luke Warner. Great grandchildren: Jayden Garcia, Lauren Cliver, Sophia Cliver, Declan and Piper Cliver

Josephine’s service will be held on June 14th, 2019 at 12 P.M at Our Lady of the Woods Catholic church in Woodland Park, Colorado.

Josephine will be interned at the Pikes Peak National Cemetery, where Eugene, her husband, will be placed by her side later on.
