Joseph Cowell Obituary

Joseph T. Cowell of Woodland Park, Colorado died peacefully at his home after a brief battle with liver cancer. Joe was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on September 4, 1953.

He grew up in Iron Mountain, Michigan and Spread Eagle, Wisconsin.  He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1971.  Joe spent four years in the Army where he was stationed in Italy and often spoke of fond memories of his travels in Europe. He graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree. In 1978 he joined the National Park Service where he met his wife, Brenda at Acadia National Park in Maine. They moved to Yosemite, California where their two children were born. Joe moved his family back to Michigan for several years and reconnected with family and friends. After many fun ski trips to Colorado, he decided to move to the mountains that he loved so much, Joe loved skiing, yet his ultimate passion was running. He ran the Pikes Peak Marathon multiple times. 

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Cowell, daughter, Danielle Bischoff (Jerad Bischoff), son, Tony Cowell, and grandchildren, Anna and Bryce Bischoff all of Woodland Park, Colorado. Brother, Jeffrey (Joanne) Cowell of Iron Mountain, MI, Sister, Laurie Furlow of Omaha, NE, and many nieces and nephews and family in Maine, Massachusetts, and Minnesota. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dolores Cowell and brother-in-law Scott Furlow. 

Joe was a wonderful kind man with a great sense of humor. He was loved by family and friends and will be dearly missed.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Colorado.
