Johnathan Rooks Obituary

Johnathan Christopher Rooks tragically passed away at the age of thirty-three on December 7th, 2024, after an accident in Woodland Park, Colorado.

Johnathan was born to Patricia Perry and Bill Rooks in Birmingham, AL where he was raised as the youngest of three brothers. It was in Birmingham where Johnathan met his high school crush, Stephanie Godwin, whom he’d later marry on February 10, 2023. Shortly after, the two of them would become the proud parents of Sebastian River Rooks and, soon, Julian Alder Rooks.

In 2013, Johnathan moved to Colorado where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. In his youth and throughout his life, he was adored by his family and many, many friends as the life of the party. He found joy in pursuing activities like skateboarding and the creative arts, particularly with his lifelong best friend, Jack Finch. Johnathan’s adult life was rich with achievements that spoke to his multifaceted talents and love for living life to its fullest. His passion for exploration led him to travel the world, an enriching journey that widened his perspectives and inspired his compassionate worldview. Jonathan cultivated an unwavering belief in heartfelt love and human connection, tangible social and political action, and he imparted lessons of kindness, understanding, and empathy to those around him. Most recently, he had rejoiced in fatherhood and found his true home in the light of River's eyes and the excitement of Julian's presence.

Johnathan was more than a man; he was a wonderful son, a devoted father, a loving husband, a beloved brother, and a treasured friend. His life stands as a testament to the power of our creativity, the joy of love and life, and the heights of human compassion. Johnathan brought laughter and light into the lives of many, and his sunset will be deeply mourned by those who loved and admired him. His family, friends, and children will carry his light and loving spirit with them throughout the rest of their lives.

Johnathan is survived by his spouse Stephanie Rooks, his toddler son River, and Julian, due 2025; mother Patricia Perry and father Bill Rooks; brothers Watson and Patrick (Kayla) Rooks; Aunt Janet Perry, cousins Jackson Stewart (Katerina), Betsy Durst (Lucas); Uncle Tim Rooks (Michelle), his many cousins; Mother-in-law Sue Mason, brother-in-law Austin Godwin (Haley), nephew Jackson and niece Savannah Godwin. He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents Margaret and Bill Perry, grandfather John Mulcahy, his paternal grandparents Ervil and Willie Rooks, and father-in-law Jeff Godwin.
