Jerry Loring Obituary

Jerry Elsworth Loring- home with Jesus!  On Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at 4:00 am, Jerry moved to his heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior.  Jerry’s gift of loving and helping people was very evident in his day-to-day life; and he always brought Jesus to life with those encounters.

Jerry was born September 20, 1950, at Charleston Naval Base in South Carolina to Clair and Marie (Cybak) Loring. (Jerry’s granddaughter Caedance Marie is named in honor of her great-grandmother).  Jerry was the second child to be born in the family. His sister Dorothy was the eldest, and he was followed by Robert, Richard, David, and Brenda.

Maybe it was his military start at birth that pointed him to a life of military service.  After graduation from high school, Jerry joined the Air Force.  His first military job was a cook in Korea.  After Korea, and once back in the United States, he was chosen to attend schooling for photography, which Jerry did throughout his military career.  And if you knew Jerry, you knew he certainly had a gift from God for capturing the creations of the world and the people in it.  He has given his family and community many pictures of wildlife, nature, sunrises, sunsets, loved ones, and blood moons.  He also had pictures published by newspapers.

While in the Air Force, he had many commendations, medals, awards, and honors, but to him that wasn’t what he talked about - it was God and his children, Loliene and Joshua, and after years went by, his grandchildren, Kayla, Bailey, Caedance, Serenity and Josiah.

Jerry and his family moved where the Air Force sent them.  He was stationed throughout the United States, Korea, Vietnam and Spain.

Jerry retired from military service after 21 years on August 1, 1991.  While living in northern Maine he took a position at the commissary at Loring Air Force base. There he was trained as a meat cutter.  After two years, he moved to Maryland to work at Fort Meade commissary. While in Maryland, he met his wife Julie.  They then transferred to Dover Air Force Base, taking the position of meat manager.  In 2015, after 20 years of service, he retired as the meat manager.

About 6 years ago, Jerry and Julie made the decision to leave family and friends on the east coast to move to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado to be closer to his children and grandchildren.  Jerry loved fishing, hunting, taking day trips and spending time with Julie and the family.

He is survived by his precious wife Julie Loring; former spouse, Peggy Greene; daughter Loliene Johnson and son Joshua (Shannon) Loring; five grandchildren, Kayla, Bailey, Caedance, Serenity and Josiah; brother, Robert (Peggy) Loring; and sisters Dorothy (Frank) Weyer and Brenda (Doug) Williams.  Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Clair V. Loring, Marie C. Cybak Loring Greene, Harry Greene, two brothers, Richard Loring and David Greene.

His service and love for our country was a big part of his life, however, Jerry’s relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ has been the substance that has held him together and brought meaning to his life.  And now he is at his heavenly home with Jesus!  He desired more than anything for his family and friends to place their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.  We miss him greatly but take comfort in knowing that he is with the Lord, and we will see him again!
