Married to John E. Rosio in 1952
Jean was married to Jack for 61 years
They had 3 children:
Ruth Rosio, Mark Rosio and Lois Rosio (Sprague)
Jean and Jack move to the Chicagoland area in 1958.
Jean was loved and known by many people in Glen Ellyn
and Wheaton, Illinois.
Jean and Jack were one of the founding families of the
Glenbard Baptist Church in Glen Ellyn in 1959.
The church later changed her name to Village Green Baptist
Church and moved to Lambert Road in Glen Ellyn. They raised
their family in this church, attending for over 60 years.
Jean served in Awana, ran the Refugee program, led multiple
Bible studies and was the Chair of the Deacons. After her
retirement, Jean became the Care Minister and Coordinator of the
Stephen Ministries.
Jean’s education began at the age of 40 at the College of
DuPage. She received her BA at Elmhurst College. She received
her Master’s Degree in Social Work from George Williams College.
Jean later taught a class at the College of DuPage titled
Contemporary Treatment Approaches.
Jean worked for over 30 years at the DuPage County Health
Department, where she started and managed many programs for
those suffering from mental illness.
In 1991, Jean received the “Friend of the Mentally Ill Award” from
the Alliance for Mental Health. Quoting Jean in the local paper,
“working with those suffering from mental illness was not an
occupation, it was a revelation.”
Jean is survived by her daughters, Ruth Rosio and Lois Rosio
(Gary Sprague).
Jean is also survived by her 5 grandchildren and their spouses:
Skylar Sprague (Christy Rutherford), Taylor Sprague (Alexander
Powers), Dylan Sprague (Emma), Jordan Sprague and Hunter
Sprague (Chazz Burney).
Great grandchildren - Harper Jean Powers and Ezra Jude Powers.
Sister-in-law Jane McLure (Herb), and Nieces, Kelly Kurkendall
(Dave), and Molly Wasko (Sam).
Jean was predeceased by her son Mark Rosio in 1988 and
her husband Jack Rosio in 2013.
Celebration of Life Service will take place:
Saturday, July 19th, 2025 at 11:00am
