Jane Phillips Obituary

Jane Alice Phillips, age 82, of Florissant, Colorado, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2023 at home surrounded by family.

Jane is survived and missed by her loving husband Lewis of 64 years; her four children, Peggy (Richard) Shamblin, Kay (Mike) DeMasters, Bob (Shari) Phillips and Chris (Sherlyn Mager) Phillips, her brother Dick Blazer, and her sister JoAnn Nibert.   Forever cherished and remembered by her seven grandchildren, Leigh, Ann, Beth, Randy, Donna, David, Matt, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.  Jane was preceded in death by her brother Mike Blazer, and grandson Corey Phillips.

Jane was born on June 4, 1940, in Gallipolis, Ohio to Mr. Lloyd and Margaret (McCormick) Blazer.  She married her childhood sweetheart, Lewis Phillips in Sept. of 1958. She was an extraordinary, supportive, and caring military wife.  She traveled along Lewis’s side, both in the US and Europe. They easily acquired lifelong friends everywhere they went. Eventually settling in Florissant, CO. Jane took great pride in being a wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, great-great-grandma, a neighbor, and a friend.

Jane influenced the lives of many people during her years of volunteer work.  She served as the Auxiliary Chief (3rd) and board member with Four Mile Emergency Services, the Vice President of the Teller County Farmers Market Association; in addition to other board and volunteer positions including the Cripple Creek Library and Bear Trap Ranch Association.  Someone said, "She was the first person to give me a hug, when I moved to Bear Trap". That was her, she was the first to volunteer, offer help, or get involved anyway she could.  Jane positively influenced the entire community.

Jane loved to read, travel, fish, camp, ride ATV's and most of all socialize.  In her earlier years, she had a green thumb and loved working in her garden.  Canning the best sweet pickles, you have ever tasted.  She welcomed everyone into her home and her heart.  She had sense of humor that was second to none and was as compassionate as she was funny. Jane represented the good that we all need every day in our lives. She was one of a select few who would rise to meet challenges with a smile, sometimes with a little grit and stubbornness. Her kindness and strength will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.

Visitation will be held at the Mountain Memorial Funeral Home, 51 County Road 5, Divide, CO on Friday, January 20 from 5-7pm.  Memorial services will be held at Four Mile Fire Protection, 8437 County Road 11, Florissant, CO on Saturday, January 21 at 2pm.
