James Yost Obituary

Our Beloved James Stephen Yost’s light dimmed on March 23rd 2025 in Woodland Park CO. Jim lived his early life in Lincoln NE, graduating Lincoln South East then attending Hiram Scott, a private Liberal Arts College. In his youth Jim participated in operettas and stage acting. He developed an adventurous heart for the outdoors while fishing and hunting and discovered an appreciation for the balance of life and nature.  He found a home in the sleepy mountain town of Telluride in the 1970’s, where he joined many former Linconites as Telluride was developed into its present day Ski Resort-Film and Festival destination. Jim acted as a volunteer Fire Fighter, was a Plumber and worked in Construction. The high altitudes of the Rockies sparked his spirit and fed his soul. He lived many years in San Diego operating small businesses- Jim The Blind Man and a Gourmet Popcorn Shop. He was an IT Tech with Qualcomm and worked in Drapery Installations for several large companies. He sailed the coast, biked the hills and hiked mountains. Life thrilled him. The Rocky Mountains called to him again and for the past decade he settled into a comfortable peaceful existence with an outstanding backdrop.

Jim had a wicked good sense of humor and incredible common sense. He was a clear thinker, an enthusiastic reader, avid card player, good cook and he cherished a dogs companionship. He was a quiet role model for many with 40 years of sobriety. All of these qualities imparted an interesting man who was genuinely interested in others. He offered an endearing, lasting impression of what a good and kind man he was.

His legacy includes Daughter Ann Rail, Grandsons; Burkett Johanns, Jonah Rail, Finley Rail and George McCune, Great Grandchild Eleanor, all of Lincoln. Sisters Ann Yost, Tucson and Linda Yost, Colorado Springs, Nieces, Nephews and 60 year enduring friendships. He was loved by all.

Jim is preceded in transition by his Mother Eleanor, Father Arthur and Brother John

No formal Memorial is planned at this time. Jim’s wish is to be scattered on the wind in the mountain trails he loved so completely.
