James "Jim" "Mad Dog" Mitchell, was 82 when he passed at Bear Creek Senior Living in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He passed on Friday August 23rd 2024 from complications due to his age. James was born on February 3rd 1942 in Oklahoma City Oklahoma at St. Anthony's Hospital to H.D. Mitchell and Helen Margaret McCarron. He was an only child.
He Served in the United States Airforce during The Vietnam War, where he was shot down and spent almost 24 hours stuck in heavy jungle canopy suspended from his parachute until he was rescued. On another occasion he was flying a training mission in the south western United States and inadvertently strayed into Mexican airspace, and due to this and his call sign being "Mad Dog" he was then called " El Perro Loco" by his unit after that. During his service he gained the Rank of Major. After his time with the Airforce Jame obtained his law degree from Oklahoma University, he practiced as a Lawyer, he served as a D.A., where during one of his campaigns he was talked into trying to milk a cow to prove he was not just a city slicker but it did not go well when the cow turned out to be a bull....
His proudest service to the Law was his service as a Federal Judge for the Social Security Administration when he lived in California. After his retirement he moved to Colorado, to the area around Florissant where he lived until his passing.
He is survived by many friends, who will greatly miss his kindness, and sense of humor, and his beloved cat Mr. Blue Eyes. As Jim would say he is off like a herd of turtles into the hereafter.
John 14:1-3 Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
