The devoted family man spent his final years in Cañón City, Colorado with his wife of 39 years, Nancy. Jim was born to the late E. Frank Meyer and Elizabeth (neé Cheverton) Meyer in Grand Rapids, Michigan, graduated from Grand Rapids South High School and went on to attend the University of Michigan where he obtained a Bachelor of Science. Shortly after graduating, Jim entered dental school at the University of Michigan and later established his dental practice in Jackson, Michigan where he raised his family. Jim continued to practice dentistry until 1989. Shortly thereafter, Jim and Nancy moved south to Ocala, Florida where they could continue their passion of raising and showing palomino American Quarter horses. In Florida, Jim began his second career, which he often called more lucrative than his first, in real estate and house flipping. Jim and Nancy moved west to Divide, Colorado to be closer to family and the beauty of the mountains. Everywhere Jim lived he enjoyed volunteering to help people in need manage budgets and helping them fill basic needs.
Jim was a proud husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be remembered as a man of virtue, a gifted storyteller, a skilled wood carver, a Michigan football fan, and for always having the best five-minute phone call of someone’s day. He will be admired for his good heart, quick wit, life lessons, and devotion to loved ones.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Nancy, and their 5 children; Dean Decker, his wife Susan, their sons Adam, wife Heidi and their 3 children, Stephen, wife Mandy and their 2 daughters, of Michigan, Doug Decker, his wife Sheryl, their daughter Sheridan, of Colorado, Jim Meyer, wife Ann, their sons Jacob and Nicholas(12/20/2000), of Iowa, John Meyer, his wife Mercedes, their children Ezra, Tomas and Ana Sofia, of Texas, and Beth Meyer Patrick, her husband Steven and their sons Andrew (AJ) and Steven currently residing in Georgia.

An additional memorial service will be held at Jim’s favorite place– Crystal Lake, Beulah, Michigan, in the summer of 2022 for family and friends to gather and celebrate his life.
