James Beavers Obituary

It is with the heaviest of hearts, my broken heart, that James, my beloved husband, passed from this earth into God’s arms on December 18, 2022, at UCHealth Memorial Central Hospital, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

James H. Beavers, better known to his sisters as “Beaver” or “James Jr.”, was born February 6, 1948, in Akron, Ohio to Mattie Presswood Beavers and James Henry Beavers. James was the first-born child and only son of Mattie Beavers. James was the patriarch to his four amazing sisters, and as his wife, I believe this is where he learned to take such wonderful care of me. If ever a man was born that knew how to treat a woman, it was James. He was a natural caretaker and took this role seriously with his mother, sisters, daughter, as well as with me as his wife.

James was predeceased by his parents, Mattie and James Beavers and his beloved uncle Frank, as well as other aunts and uncles.

James leaves his daughter Mardi Gibson, her husband DeMar, their daughters Damara, Damia, and their sons Buddy (DeMar Jr.) and Mason, all of Akron, Ohio.

James leaves four younger sisters and a host of other relatives. Beverly Whitworth, of Atlanta, Georgia and her son, Samuel Whitworth, his two daughters, Ayeola and Sekaya Whitworth.  Roshell Beavers, of Akron, Ohio and her children, Terran Franklin and Bianca Franklin and her son, Davieon. Brenda Beavers, of Akron, Ohio and her daughter, Tinisha Cartledge and her daughter, Danaysia Lee. Lea Neal, of Norton, Ohio and her three daughters, Marrissa (husband, Blaine) Saunders of Akron, Ohio, Brittany Neal and Bria Neal, both of Columbus, Ohio.

James married Chris on August 28, 1972. They were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Mardi Bren Beavers Gibson on May 2, 1977. That union ended on April 13, 1979.

James met me, Trish, in September of 1980. It was love at first sight. We lived together practically from the day we met until his untimely and unexpected death. We were united in marriage on September 7, 1985. Soulmates to the end. James and I moved to Florissant, Colorado in 1999 and together we built our dream home. We shared our home with all our fur babies, Tippy, Dharma, Rusty, and Valen, who James is now playing with in heaven. He leaves behind our special dog, Amesley, who misses his daddy so much.

James enjoyed sports of all kinds. If he wasn’t playing it, he was watching it. He knew the ends and outs of all of them. He was a true OSU Buckeyes fan, O-H-I-O, wearing his scarlet and gray proudly. And a Lakers fan from the days of Kareem to his boy Lebron. He loved that they shared the name, James. He was a lover of old films, which Mardi takes after. Each month he had me print out the schedule of TCM movies so he could watch or record them. He loved to read, but it had to be non-fiction or history. He loved to go camping with Amesley and me, although it was really glamping. We had a satellite dish so he could watch his movies and sports wherever we went. And he loved to look nice. Born handsome and charming, James matched it with a perfect outfit from head to toe. Everyone noticed and complimented him on his appearance. James never aged. Although almost ten years older than me, people couldn’t figure out who was the youngest.

James worked at the former Akron City Hospital in various positions. He continued his career at Acme Grocery and then decided a change was needed. He became a hairdresser in the late 1990s. He worked in Akron and Colorado Springs in Aveda salons until his knees could not tolerate the standing. He had bilateral knee replacement in 2010 while he was working part-time at Walmart as an “old geezer”.  He tried to retire again but soon became bored and returned part-time to Pikes Peak Regional Hospital, allowing him to be near me while working. He retired permanently in 2017 when I eventually started working from home. He most recently had bilateral hip replacement to rid him of the pain that plagued him for many years. He finally was pain free and ready to regain his living having regained quality of life and start traveling with me and Amesley in our little motorhome.

At this time, Memorial services will be planned at a later date; there will be one in Woodland Park, CO and one in Akron OH. Dates and locations will be shared once they are determined. James never met a stranger. He was a friend to all, and it is only fitting to allow those who loved him to pay their respects. Per James’ wishes, his body will be cremated.

Special thanks to Mike Messner, D.O, Erik Nijkamp, P.T., Tricia Sichmeller, PharmD, our neighbors and friends of Deer Mountain Ranch, Angela Cook and the entire IntegrityM staff.

Memorial donations can be made in his name, James H. Beavers, to National Mill Dog Rescue, NMDR.org.
