Jaclyn Johnston Obituary

Jaclyn (Jackie) Jean Johnston passed away on January 31, 2023 at her home in Frisco, Colorado at the age of 41.

Jackie was born in Kremmling, Colorado on November 11, 1981, to Robert and Dennise Groeger.  Jackie had a fun childhood growing up with her sister Jessie and brother Nick in a ranching community in north central Colorado.  She enjoyed all the pastimes common to the area, such as camping, hiking, fishing and spending time at the lake.  She was an animal lover and liked bugs too.  Jackie enjoyed traveling with her family and saw a good portion of the U.S.  She was a funny, creative child.  She once gathered frogs in the camper sink in Memphis and they weren’t discovered until New Orleans.  You could ask her to sing a song about any subject and she would create one off the top of her head and go on and on and on.  When she was around 8 years old, she arranged a birthday party for herself, invited all the guests and then let her dad know about it just in time to provide party food and decorations.

As she got older, the family moved to Summit County where she graduated from High School.  Jackie attended Colorado Mountain College where she earned a degree in Hospitality.  She put her training to good use as a front desk manager at a local hotel.

On July 24, 2004, Jackie married Elijah Johnston and they bought a house in Silverthorne.  Jackie had a successful career and served on an advisory board for the Chamber of Commerce.

In her later years, she spent much of her time volunteering by assisting senior citizens and caring for animals at an animal shelter in Summit County.  She was a caregiver for her mother-in-law and got close to her grandma whom she helped recuperate after an accident.

Jackie will always be remembered as a trusting, personable, friendly and out-going lady.  She was always there to assist anyone in need.

Jackie is survived by her father Robert Groeger of Buena Vista; her sister and brother-in-law Jessica and Dan Vollendorf and nieces Maddie and Josie of Gunnison, CO; her brother and sister-in-law Nick and Anna Groeger and nephews Tiernan and Torin of Lakewood, CO; Jackie is also survived by a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins and second cousins who loved her very much.

Jackie is predeceased by her mother, Dennise Neville of Oak Creek, CO; Grandparents Raymond and Emily Groeger of Woodland Park, CO; Grandparents Don and Sally Chrisp of Sterling, CO; cousin Tucker Graef of Colorado Springs, CO.
