Hereford Peiffer Obituary

Hereford Vernon "Bud" Peiffer passed away Sunday, June 28, 2020 in his home with his loving wife of 68 years, Georganna, by his side.

He was born in Cripple Creek, CO on August 16, 1934. Bud graduated from Cripple Creek High School in 1952 and married Georganna McCleerey on March 10, 1952 in Raton, NM.

Bud is survived by his devoted wife Georganna (McCleerey) of Cripple Creek; loving sons Leonard Keith of Cripple Creek, Dale Kent of Cripple Creek and Vernon Kraig of New Castle, CO; cherished grandons V. Chaz Peiffer of Glenwood Springs; Beau Louis Peiffer of Columbus, OH; and granddaughters Ming Peiffer of NY and Hanna Rose Peiffer of Denver CO.

Bud is preceded in death by his adored daughter H. Luann Peiffer of Glenwood Springs, CO; his honored parents Louis O. and Helen Irene Peiffer; his dear brother, Jack Peiffer.

Bud's professional career was filled with many chapters.  He was first appointed to the US Border Patrol, where he served in El Paso, TX and Spokane, WA. He was then transferred to the immigration department in Denver, CO. He worked in gold and uranium mining. He returned to Cripple Creek as a business person.  Later went back to Denver as a salesman for Wood Brothers Homes in Boulder. He was a bond representative for Hannifin, Isshoff & Sanford, which aided in the rebuilding of the dam in Cripple Creek (which broke in the 1960's) as well as the building of the Cripple Creek/Victor School and the Wellness Center. In the 1970's he started Cripple Creek Auto. He was a distributor for Texaco and Conoco.  He also opened the Corner Stop at the corner of 2nd and Bennett Ave. in Cripple Creek.

Eventually he retired to Glenwood Springs, CO but as a homing pigeon, returned to Cripple Creek in 1999.

Bud was a member of the Episcopal Church,  He was a lifelong Elk.  He served as exalted ruler from 1977-1978.  During his tenures as district deputy for the State of Colorado, he had all the officers meet at Laradon Hall, in Denver, a project for people with disabilities that the Elks support.

Bud's services will be held Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 11:00 am, at the Cripple Creek Elks Lodge #316.  Interment at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, July 12, 2020.
