Gilbert R. LeGarda Obituary
In Loving Memory of Staff Sergeant Gilbert Ray Legarda
Gilbert Ray Legarda, 45, of Woodland Park, Colorado, passed away on June 21, 2026, after a courageous battle with early-onset dementia.
Born in Silver City, New Mexico, Gilbert was the beloved son of Raul Legarda and Gloria Borrego. He grew up surrounded by a close-knit family and is lovingly remembered by his siblings, Sally, Rocky, Jaclynn, and Veronica.
On January 11, 2018, Gilbert married his wife, Samanatha, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and love. Gilbert was a devoted husband and father who cherished his family and friends.
Staff Sergeant Gilbert Legarda honorably served his country for 19 years in the United States Army. During his distinguished military career, he earned numerous awards and decorations, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, and Army Reserve Achievement Medal. His dedication, professionalism, and commitment to service left a lasting impact on those who served alongside him.
A devoted Catholic, Gilbert lived his faith through his actions and his unwavering dedication to family, friends, and his community. He embraced life with enthusiasm and adventure. He enjoyed running, hiking, snowboarding, golfing, racing cars, and white-water rafting. Like his mother, he was passionate fan of the San Francisco 49ers and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite team.
Anyone who knew Gilbert knew that he was fiercely competitive. Whether on the golf course, during a family game, or tackling a new challenge, he had a way of turning everything into a friendly competition. His determination, humor, and spirited nature brought energy and laughter to every gathering.
Gilbert is survived by his loving wife, Samantha Legarda; his sons, Iziah Legarda and Eli Legarda. Iziah proudly continues his father's legacy of military service as a member of the United States Air Force. Gilbert is also survived by his parent, Raul Legarda; his siblings, Sally, Rocky, Jaclynn, and Veronica; and many extended family members, friends, and fellow service members who will forever cherish his memory.
Though Gilbert's life was cut far too short, his legacy of service, faith, strength, and love will continue to live on through all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
