Gary S. Smith

Gary S Smith was 67 years old, and passed away in Woodland Park, CO.  He was a long-time resident of Woodland Park.  He died Thursday, June 29, 2023, of a massive heart attack.  

He was born November 24, 1955, in Japan, to William and Jean Smith.  His childhood years were spent with his military family.  He attended United States Military Academy Preparatory School. and was selected to be an exchange student to the Philippine Military Academy. He was commissioned as Armor Officer. Upon leaving the army, he became a Colorado Springs police officer, and received a medal for his life-saving actions.  He loved his music, playing softball, and playing Olympic team handball.  He had a dry and ornery sense of humor.  

Gary is survived by his spouse, Barbara Burton, his daughter, Andrea Smith, grandsons, Andrew Smith-Yu, Adan Smith Urmeneta, siblings, Bob Smith and his wife, Jo, Linda Ramirez, Tom Smith, Kathy Smith, and Janet Smith.  Nieces and nephews include Justin Ramirez, Marcus Smith, Brianne Smith, Stephanie Smith, and Sydney Smith.  Gary was preceded in death by his parents, William and Jean Smith.
