Douglas Jones Obituary

Douglas "Doug" James Jones, 74 of Fairplay, CO passed away on Saturday, May 10th 2025.

Born June 14, 1950 in Pekin, IL to James and Margaret (Downing) Jones.

Doug is survived by his loving wife, Angela "Angie" Marie (Broughton); married October 8th 2010. He is also survived by his three children, daughters, Cori Snyder of Marquette Heights, Megan (Andy) Shane of Pekin, IL and one son, Derek (Megan) Jones of Laramie, WY; step-daughter Celeste (Greg) Hall of Bloomington, IL; nine grandchildren, Noah Hazlett, Paige (Kaimyn Dennison) Snyder, Keagan Snyder, Hudson (Mazlyn Tibbs) Snyder, Draven Shane, Harper Shane, Foster Jones, Lochlan Jones and Rowan Jones; three step-grandchildren, Hunter Hall, Margot DePeugh and Wyatt DePeugh; three great-grandchildren, Oliver Hazlett, Jasper Hazlett and Shylo Snyder; two brothers, Dan (Mona) Jones, Michael (Leslie) Jones; two sisters, Roberta (Perry) Cruce and Marla (Bill) Venard, one sister-in-law, Ruth Jones, many nieces and nephews and the mother of his children, Carol (Moorhouse) Dahlgren, who he was married to from 1970-1996.  He also leaves behind his beloved dogs, Willi and Hank.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Rory Jones, son-in-law, Kip Snyder and step-son Kevin DePeugh.

Doug was a 1968 graduate of Pekin Community High School, where he played basketball and was on the 1967 IHSA boys basketball state championship team. He later attended Illinois State University graduating in 1972 with a bachelor's in business. He was a teacher for District 108 for 32 years; teaching at Roosevelt School from 1973-1976 and Broadmoor Jr. High School from 1976 until he retired in 2005. After retiring he worked for Pekin Community High School until 2011.

He was an avid skier and a distance runner, running several marathons and races for many years, an excellent handyman, he enjoyed nature and being in the mountains, liked a round of golf from time to time and loved to listen to old country music, he was also a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.

Doug and Angie moved to Fairplay, CO in 2016 and lived in the mountains which was a dream of his.  

A memorial will be held by their church family at South Park Community Church in Fairplay, CO on June 14th 2025 at 2:00pm.  There will be a livestream of the service on the church's website.
