It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Douglas John Bielz, 67, on February 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family in Cripple Creek, Colorado, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

Doug was born on January 18, 1958, to Bert and Norma (Conley) Bielz in Denver, Colorado. He was the youngest of four boys, joining siblings Bert Bielz Jr., Jay Bielz, and Ronnie Bielz. Doug grew up in Middletown, California, before moving to Cripple Creek, where he graduated from Cripple Creek Victor High School in 1976.

Doug’s career as an electrician was a true passion, and he made a significant mark in his profession. He was the youngest person in the state of Colorado to earn his Master Electrician’s license, a milestone that earned him respect and admiration as both a skilled professional and a mentor to others in the field.

One of Doug’s greatest joys was spending time with his wife, Kim, and his best buddy, Dakota. Together, they loved taking day trips and exploring new places.  One of Doug’s favorite activities was watching the bald eagles in Mundt, South Dakota. When not traveling, Doug enjoyed the serenity of fishing, often spending hours on the lakes of Minnesota, casting lines from his boat.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Norma Bielz, and his brothers Jay and Ronnie Bielz.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kim Bielz; son Kyle Bielz (grandson Lance and granddaughter Prestley Bielz); daughter Misty (Jared) Gee (granddaughters Jasmine and Violet Gee); stepchildren Kourtney (Howard) Smith, Kayla Mathies, and Joshua (Brittany) Mathies; step-grandchildren Magi, Kerion, Keegan, Kayden, Ashlynn, Camauri, Kalaya, Brooklynn, Cami, and Alycia; his brother Bert Bielz Jr. (Mary); mother-in-law Evelyn Trenary; and many nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved.

Doug will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of Doug’s life will be held later in the summer at Bison Reservoir.
