Dorothy (Dottie) Freeman Marshall passed away on November 17, 2025 at the age of 98, at Elements of Living (The Aspen) Assisted Living in Woodland Park, Colorado. Born on October 26, 1927 in Denver, Colorado, she was the second daughter of Tom and Helen Freeman.
Early on, the Freeman family relocated to Fort Worth, Texas where Dottie grew up, graduating from Paschal High School at age 16. She went on to attend the University of Colorado where she met her future husband Warren Marshall on a double-date ski trip and continued to develop a love of skiing in the early days of the sport in Colorado. Dottie was very active in the Delta Gamma Sorority while at CU and graduated with a degree in Zoology in 1948.
Dottie and Warren were married September 5, 1948 at the Freeman cabin west of Denver, where many precious family memories were made in the years to follow. Dottie and Warren raised their six children in Colorado mostly in Denver, also in Pueblo and Littleton. Dottie had a lifelong love of music and instilled this love in her children, starting with a year or two of piano lessons for each. Dottie was a 76 year charter member of P.E.O. Chapter GZ, was a prolific knitter, loved playing golf (scored two holes-in-one!), and enjoyed regularly playing bridge with close friends. Dottie nurtured her interests in the medical field through many years of dedicated volunteer service at Craig Rehabilitation Hospital and Porter Hospital. Dottie & Warren were longtime members of Baptist churches in Denver and Pueblo, and charter members of GracePoint Community Church (Presbyterian) in Littleton. Dottie enjoyed making close lifelong friends wherever she lived. She was her floor social coordinator at Riverpoint Senior Living in Littleton where she lived for several years after her husband Warren’s death.
Dottie was preceded in death by her parents Tom and Helen Freeman, her husband Warren, and her sister Alice Seerie. She is survived by her children Hadi Gibbons (Bruce), Tom Marshall (Jan), Sue Burks (Mack), Paul Marshall (Mary Anne), Peggy Marshall, and Anne Ahern (Kevin), 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
Dottie leaves behind a trail of blessings and loving kindnesses to everyone her life has touched. The most cherished memory of all for her six kids, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all who knew her is that of her lifetime commitment to being a great Mother. She will be remembered in a memorial service to be held at GracePoint Community Church, 90 E. Orchard Rd, Littleton, Colorado on January 10, 2026 at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Colorado Talking Books Library or Glaucoma Research Foundation, both favorite causes of Dottie’s.
