Beverly Elwell Obituary

Beverly J. Elwell was born June 24, 1934 in Colorado Springs and departed this world on September 17, 2019 at her home in Woodland Park.

Beverly was a life-long resident of Teller County.  She grew up in Divide, Colorado with her parents, Ted and Blanche Weaver, along with three brothers and two sisters.  She was also very close to her grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins who lived in the area.

As a 1951 graduate of Woodland Park High School, Beverly participated in baseball, basketball and track.  She was also involved in band, choir and pep club.  One of her proudest moments was being the only girl on the boy’s high school baseball team.  She then attended Colorado College and Western State College.

Bev married the love of her life, Jack Elwell, on September 22, 1961 and they were happily married for nearly 58 years.  They built their dream home in Woodland Park in May, 1972, where they raised their family and she lived the remainder of her life.

Beverly loved the memories of her youth, her family; especially her grandchildren and all of their activities.  She loved their church, her many friends, gospel music, horse racing, women’s basketball, card games, picnics, colorful flowers and living the country life in the mountains.

Christmas was Bev’s favorite holiday and she loved decorating and enjoyed the holiday festivities with her family and friends.  She made evergreen Christmas decorations and wreaths for over 47 years.  She also actively ran the family cabin rental business until she was 82.

Beverly lived life to the fullest and took advantage of every opportunity to socialize, travel, meet new people and enjoy life.  She and Jack loved retirement and traveled to many destinations which ranged from Alaska to New Zealand.  However, their favorite destination was Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Elwell, her sisters Barbara (Weaver) Christensen and Betty (Weaver) Fell; her two sons John Elwell (Carrie) and Jeff Elwell (Margarette), and grandchildren Tyler (Jennica), Jordyn, Hunter and Drew.

Beverly will be most remembered for being humble, her endless generosity, her smile, gratefulness, her kind spirit, love of family and strong faith.

The family would like thank everyone for the phone calls, cards, letters, flowers, visits and meals over the past several years and a very special thank you to her caregivers Ruth, Nancy and Christa.

Memorial Service will be held at the Mountain View United Methodist Church, 1101 Rampart Range Road, Woodland Park, Colorado on Monday, September 23.  Viewing will be at 10:00 with the memorial service at 11:00 followed by a graveside service.  A reception at Mountain View Methodist Church will follow.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Community Cupboard Food Pantry, P.O. Box 999, Woodland Park, CO  80866 where Beverly frequently volunteered.
