Alice Hawk Obituary

After 97 years, Alice's time here on Earth has come to an end. On Monday, July 13, 2020 she received a call from Heaven and peacefully went to be with the LORD.

Alice was born on March 20th,1923 in Victor, Colorado to a musician and piano instructor Elsa Akin and a miner and prospector John Akin. During childhood Alice combated polio and became partially paralized, but that did not slow her down one bit. She worked making ammunition during WW2 and became a licensed practical nurse. She later opened a Pharmacy with her sister Irma which they named the Victor Drug Dealers; a decision which they would later regret. Alice confessed that "she didn't always make the wisest decisions", like the time she got married. Though the marriage was short, she was blessed with a beautiful son Joseph Alan Hawk Sr. who she lost tragically in 1994. Alice never remarried and proudly maintained her independence until age 90 at which time she moved to Colorado Springs with her granddaughter.

Alice took great pride in her home that was built by her family in 1901 and lived there nearly all of her life. She loved gardening, visiting with friends and family and taking care of stray animals. The apple didn't fall far from the tree as she was musically inclined like her mother. She found great joy in listening to music and playing the piano and harmonica. Alice was witnessed to accept the LORD as her Savior by her nephew Ken Dean and his wife Annie in 1999. She was a member of First Baptist Church and maintained her faith throughout her life.
The saying "they just don't make them like they used to" is especially true with Alice. She was a one of a kind gal from a generation of which we can all learn so much from. We are heartbroken to lose such an important matriarch, but rejoice in knowing that she is at peace with the LORD.

Alice is survived by her granddaughter Betina Lorene Hawk and great-grandsons Joseph Alan Hawk III and Gavin Shy Hawk. She was preceded in death by her son Joseph Alan Hawk Sr, grandson Joseph Alan Hawk Jr, sister Irma Laverne Dean and parents John and Elsa Akin.

Alice will be laid to rest on Sunday, July 19th 2020 at Sunnyside Cemetery in Victor, CO. alongside her parents. Pastor Andy Watson of First Baptist Church will be officiating a private graveside farewell for Alice's close friends and family.
