Alfred Eugene (“Gene”) Leaf passed away at home on July 11, 2021. He was born in Cripple Creek, Colorado, on December 12, 1951 to Adolf Gustov (Gust) and Florence Esther (Waters) Leaf, both of whom are deceased. Gene spent his life in Cripple Creek working for the various mining companies that passed through the area. He was an underground miner and also worked in the lab for the Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company for several years. Following the closure of the mines, Gene worked for the City of Cripple Creek for many years.
Gene may be best known for his drum playing skills, which he lent to several local bands over the years, playing at local dances at Zeke’s Place, Four Mile Hall, the Victor Elks, and Victor Gold Rush Days for many years.
Gene is survived by four children: Douglas (Kourtney Kobrock) Leaf of Fountain, Colorado; Jacklyn (Anthony) Steeples of Chandler, Arizona; Nicole (Travis) Crawford of Greeley, Colorado; and Kylie Muntzert of Fountain, Colorado as well as grandchildren Jordyn, Dylan, William, Tinley and Erynn.
A memorial service will be held at 1pm August 28th at Mount Pisgah Cemetery with a reception to follow at 3pm in the Parks & Rec Arena. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CCV Reunion Fund.
