Sherry Jo Scott, 56, of Woodland Park, Colorado, passed away peacefully at sunrise on Tuesday 29 January 2019 at the Pikes Peak Hospice unit at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Sherry was born on 1 February 1962 at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas to Carl and Janice Kingsley. She graduated from Morton High School in Morton Illinois in 1980, where she was a National Merit Scholar. She attended Illinois State University from 1980 to 1984 and graduated with a degree in Physics. She served as a weather officer with the United States Air Force from 1984 to 1988. She met her husband Bryan Scott while stationed at Onizuka Air Force Base, California, and married on 3 November 1989. In 1991 they moved to Colorado and eventually settled in Woodland Park.

Sherry battled a bipolar disorder for many years but was eventually able to control it and enjoy a happy and productive life for many years. With her success and her desire to help others she became extensively involved with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). She went from being a student of the Peer to Peer class to teaching it. Sherry became involved with teaching the Provider Education class, and after attending the Connection Support groups she started facilitating them. In addition to this she began going to treatment facilities and sharing her story to provide hope to those who had similar experiences.

Sherry loved the outdoors and with her husband spent many days exploring the Colorado mountains. She especially loved trips to the Great Sand Dunes and to Moab, Utah. She liked to hike, backpack, snowshoe, and cross country ski. She especially loved to ride her mountain bike.

Sherry was a voracious reader and amassed a large collection of books.

Sherry attended First Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs and was active in such groups as the choir, book discussion group, hiking group, wildflower group, and Marian House volunteers.

She is survived by her husband Bryan Scott, her parents Carl and Janice Kingsley, her sister Toni Culbreath, her sister Carla Russell with husband John, her brother Craig Kingsley with wife Terri-Anne, her niece Dawn Babbitt with husband Jim, her nephew Michael Culbreath with wife Brenna Ann, her great nephew Jonah Babbitt, and two great nieces Kieley and Scarlet Babbitt.

Sherry had many challenges in her life and met them all with courage and grace. She was a blessing to those who knew her and will be terribly missed by all who love her.
